Hello -
Long time free user and I would like to upgrade. I spend a lot of time at LDS research centers with the portable version and transfer back to my home PC later on. Does one receive upgraded home and portable versions with purchase? - apologies if an answer to this question is listed somewhere else
Cheers

Hi sertolicell,
well, I'm not sure about the right answer. The download options are not the problem - you can download the software for free in any flavour. Just to notice that with the shopping you get the opportunity to download a slightly expanded bundle. The licence code you get will work for both portable or installable version - and I suppose it will work for both, too. But I'm not totally sure. What's clear: The licence will be stored in two different places - ahnenblatt.ini in the one case, Windows registry in the other.
There have been users who tried it - please show up!

Oh, I found the answer in the german FAQ which is much more detailed than the english one. According to that, you can use your licence personally on as many computers as you possess yourself. Should be the answer to your question.

Thank you very much for the answer
As an aside, the free version alone is, to me, worth at least as much as the paid version.

Hi sertolicell,
the free 2.9x version works well for those who don't need more or more sophisticated capabilities with personal events, source management, tasks management and so on.
the free 3.0 version is only a test version with limited functions - you can open any family file, but not add (more than 50 or so?) persons. But together with a licence, it will switch directly into a full version.
That's what I understood about Dirk's versions policy.
Just use whatever fits.
