Spouses

Beitrag von emw12 »

In the photo edit there are two arrows which allow the selected record o be moved up or down. I would like to see this same feature in the spouse edit. Since the top entry is considered the current spouse when you add a new spouse you have o delete the old spouse, enter the new spouse, then reenter the old spouse. The arrows to move a record up or down would sure make this easier.

Hi emw12,

welcome to the Ahnenblatt-Portal!

If you just want to sort your family-members (here the spouses of a person) by date, you can do that via the sort-button or with the command "sort family" in the "Edit" menu. There is no need to enter the marriages (or children) in the right order.

If you don't know all dates, you can work with values which indicate if an event was before or after another.
If you know "Charles" married "Camilla" on 09.04.2005 and later find out that he was married before (with e.g. "Diana") , but you don't know when, then just enter "BEF 2005" (or even BEF APR 2005) in the date-field. If you know that it was back in the eighties (about 1981), you could enter "ABT 1981" (or "EST" for estimated and "CAL" for calculated).
If he'll marry again, you can use "AFT" for after.

These abbreviations are part of the Gedcom-Standard and shouldn't make any problems, when you export your file and import your family-data in any other software.

Ahnenblatt is able to sort these dates too and you're able to sort your family the way you want.
